Wake County C&D Compliance
What contractors need to know about C&D disposal in Wake County
County sites are off-limits to contractors. Wake County convenience centers do not accept C&D waste from contractors, businesses, or tenants — even if the work is on a homeowner's property. All commercial C&D must go to permitted private facilities.
NC DEQ-permitted disposal. All C&D debris must be disposed of at facilities permitted under NC G.S. 130A-294. Oak City Hauling routes to permitted C&D landfills and transfer stations across Wake County.
C&D surcharge handled. Loads with more than 10% C&D content are subject to Wake County's Construction and Demolition Surcharge Ordinance. We handle all surcharge documentation and routing.
Asphalt fill exemption. Used asphalt mixed with dirt, sand, gravel, rock, or concrete may be used as fill material per NC G.S. 130A-294(m) and does not require landfill disposal.
Asbestos requires separate clearance. NC DHHS requires a demolition notification (Form DHHS 3768) at least 10 working days before any demolition. If asbestos is present, a licensed abatement contractor must handle removal before Oak City Hauling can take the remaining C&D debris.
Recycling & Material Diversion
We separate and divert recyclable materials whenever possible — because Wake County's C&D surcharge makes recycling the smart financial choice too.
Concrete & Masonry
Crushed and repurposed as aggregate at local recycling facilities.
Metals
Structural steel, copper piping, and ductwork separated for scrap processing.
Untreated Wood
Routed to chipping and biomass facilities for reuse.
Cardboard & Packaging
Standard recycling for job site packaging and shipping materials.
Drywall & Gypsum
Specialty recycling when available through permitted Wake County facilities.
Asphalt Shingles
Recycled into aggregate when volume and condition allow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do contractors need special disposal for C&D waste in Wake County?
Yes. Wake County convenience centers do not accept construction and demolition debris from contractors — only from homeowners directly. All commercial C&D waste must go to NC DEQ-permitted private facilities. Oak City Hauling is a licensed Wake County hauler and routes all debris to permitted C&D landfills and transfer stations.
Can I schedule recurring debris pickup for my construction project?
Absolutely. We offer daily, weekly, or phase-based recurring pickup schedules tailored to your project timeline. Whether it's a two-week kitchen remodel or a six-month commercial build, we coordinate with your crew so debris never piles up on your job site.
What construction materials do you accept?
We handle standard C&D debris including lumber, drywall, roofing materials, carpet, flooring, metal, brick, masonry, glass, plastics, PVC, insulation, and plaster. We also handle inert materials like concrete, clean soil, and rock through separate LCID-permitted facilities.
Do you handle demolition debris?
Yes. We provide post-demolition cleanup including mixed demo debris, material sorting, and same-day scheduling aligned to your demo crew's timeline. All debris is disposed of at NC DEQ-permitted C&D facilities in compliance with NC G.S. 130A-294.
What about asbestos or hazardous materials on my job site?
Oak City Hauling does not transport asbestos-containing materials, uncleared lead paint debris from pre-1978 structures, or regulated hazardous waste. Contractors must obtain NC DHHS clearance (Form DHHS 3768) and use a licensed abatement contractor before scheduling debris removal. We can handle the remaining non-hazardous demo debris once clearance is confirmed.
