When we drive away with a truck full of your old furniture, appliances, and clutter, the job isn't over for us. What happens next matters — for the environment, for the community, and for how we run our business. Here's the full picture of where your junk actually goes.
Step 1: Sorting at Our Facility
After every pickup, our crew returns to our facility where items are sorted into three categories: items that can be donated, items that can be recycled, and items that need to be disposed of. We don't just dump everything in one pile — we take the time to sort because it's the right thing to do.
Step 2: Donating Usable Items
Furniture, appliances, clothing, and household goods in good condition go to local charities and nonprofit organizations in the Triangle. Working refrigerators, couches with no damage, clean clothing — these items get a second life with families who need them. We work with organizations across Wake and Durham counties to make sure donations reach people in need.
Step 3: Recycling Materials
Metal, cardboard, wood, electronics, and appliances go to certified recycling facilities. Appliances are processed to safely recover refrigerants and metals. Electronics go to e-waste recyclers who extract reusable components. Wood and cardboard go to composting or material recovery facilities.
Step 4: Responsible Disposal
Items that can't be donated or recycled — broken or contaminated materials, certain plastics, mixed waste — go to licensed disposal facilities. We follow all Wake County and NC DEQ regulations for waste disposal, and we use facilities that prioritize waste-to-energy over traditional landfilling when possible.
Why This Matters
Every truckload we divert from the landfill is a win for the Triangle community. Landfill space is limited, disposal costs are rising, and the environmental impact of unnecessary waste is real. By sorting and donating, we keep usable items in circulation and reduce the burden on local landfills.
What We Can't Take
For safety and regulatory reasons, we cannot accept hazardous materials including paint (unless fully dried), chemicals, asbestos, medical waste, or ammunition. If you're unsure about an item, give us a call and we'll let you know.
